2022 Sucked - December 31th 2022
Change is fluffing* hard. Ask anyone who has ever tried to make serious life changes and they will all tell you it’s hard. I dealt with a couple personal losses a few months ago and it forced me to make some changes in how I think and how I live. The calendar will flip to 2023 in a few hours and a lot of you are motivated to make some healthy changes in the new year. Here are a few lessons I have learned over the last 8 months that might help you stay on track when January turns to February and your motivation begins to fade.
You will fluff* up. You will miss a workout or have a day where you don’t stick to your plan. Get over it and do better tomorrow. You might even fluff* up for a full week, get over it and do better tomorrow. I had weeks where I couldn’t get it together but that didn’t stop me from trying. 1 bad week, 1.5 good weeks, 3 bad days, 4 good days. The wins start to add up and it makes a big difference. Too many people stuggle for a few days and give up all together. Fluff* that; stay the course and try harder tomorrow.
Announcing your plans to completely change the way you eat and train = sexy. Deciding to commit to getting to the gym 2-3x per week and making 1 simple nutritional change = boring. The ones who commit to the boring, simple changes are much more likely to stick with it than those who go for sexy and try to change everything overnight. I had a few things I needed to change but I didn’t have the time to do it all at once. I tried and it was so overwhelming that I quit for a little while. When I got back on it I figured out that I could commit to 1-2 simple changes over a much longer period of time. The key was to figure out what I could do to make some progress without causing too much of a disturbance in my day-to-day life. That should be your focus; what can you to do that won’t fluff* with your day-to-day life. Taking a walk each day or getting to the gym 2-3 times per week wont mess with your day to day all that much. Aiming for more protien, less fried food probably wont require too much of a change in your life. These simple changes wont require too much effort but can yield big results.
That’s pretty much it. You need to commit to some simple changes and understand that you are going to fluff* up, a lot. Just keep going. It doesn’t matter if you lose an entire week; get back on it.
